On 17th – 23rd of July 2016, 14 members of AAPG UPN SC went to Malaysia as a Fieldtrip Division’s agenda. We were there for a week to carry out some activities. First of all, to attended GENC (Geoscience Exhibitions and Competitions) 2016 on 19th – 20th of July 2016. An annual event held by AAPG Student Chapter of Universiti Teknologi Petronas, that took place in Ipoh, State of Perak, Malaysia, in the UTP campus.The event has activities such as posters and creative exhibitions, presentations, gala dinner, and many more, they are all about earth science topics. This year, GENC has followed by famed university from 3 countries, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
AAPG UPN SC sent three teams, each of the team has 4-6 members that bring numerous topics for the competitions, they are Reactivation of Opak’s Fault by Team 1, Paleo volcanic of Southern Java by Team 2, and Determining PaleoGeographic and PaleoCurrent Sedimentation of Wonosegoro, Boyolali, Central Java by Team 3. All the preparation was started for about a month before depart to Malaysia. All of the team arrived at Kuala Lumpur at 17th July, and have two days for practice and final preparation.
The event runs well and attractive. Started with the opening ceremony, presentation and exhibitions on the next day, and Gala dinner as the closing ceremony on the final night of the event. All delegations from AAPG UPN SC brought the presentation smoothly without constraint means.
After 3 days in Ipoh, all of AAPG UPN SC members continued the journey back to Kuala Lumpur for a great holiday. We were visited some great places there, such as Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves, KL Central Market, etc. We also had an opportunity for visiting our Alumni, Mr. Dicki who have worked in Petronas Malaysia, to share his valuable experiences, and gave us some advice for geoscientist challenge in the future. All of our activities carried out with great feeling, happiness and full of sense of family. On 22nd of July, all of us were going back home. What a journey!
